Lechia Gdańsk has decided! Maksym Chłań is going to the games!

Today, it is already known that Ekstraklasa will have its first representative at the Olympic tournament since 1992. A week ago, Lechia Gdańsk received a call-up for Maksym Chłań. At that time, he received the initial green light from the club, but talks were still to take place with president Paolo Urfer about the Ukrainian's departure.

On Monday, July 8, the training camp of the Ukrainian national team with the participation of Chłan began. On Wednesday, the portal WP SportoweFakty informed that, contrary to earlier announcements, the Ukrainian will not play in the match against Śląsk Wrocław. Initially, it was said that the 21-year-old would leave the training camp for a while to help the club, but the Ukrainian federation did not agree to such a solution. Ultimately, Chłań will definitely miss the first two rounds of the Ekstraklasa – Lechia's match against Śląsk and Motor Lublin.

Sport.pl found out how the decision was made. The player himself really wanted to go to Paris, but on the other hand he didn't hide the fact that it was hard for him to leave Lechia just before the start of the season. On Saturday, after the friendly with Legia Warsaw, he told us that final talks were underway, and Lechia's technical director Kevin Blackwell was not in favor of his departure. Ultimately, however, Chłań got the green light.

Interestingly, the Ukrainians also wanted to call up Ivan Zelizka and Bogdan Vyunnyk, other Lechia players, to the squad. However, the club did not agree to this.

Maksym Chłań is the first Ekstraklasa player since 1992 to play in the Olympics. The portal reported this Ekstraklasa.org“The last time Ekstraklasa players played in a tournament of this rank was in 1992, when Poland, with twenty players from Ekstraklasa, won silver. In addition, players from these games played in the Olympic competitions in: 1936 (15 players in the Polish national team – 4th place), 1952 (14 players in the Polish national team), 1960 (19 players in the Polish national team), 1972 (19 players in the Polish national team – gold medal) and 1976 (17 players in the Polish national team – silver medal)” – we read.
